Swallowing Center
Dysphagia is the symptom of difficult swallowing. The complaints may be painful
swallowing or coughing and choking while swallowing. Patients may also experience
burning in the throat or a lump in the throat. These symptoms may be caused by many
problems including acid reflux, neurological illnesses, tumors and even stress.

The Nebraska Swallowing Center offers adult patients with swallowing problems a
comprehensive evaluation and treatment program through a unique multidisciplinary

- Video and Fiberoptic endoscopy of the pharynx, larynx, and esophagus
- Fiberoptic sensory testing of the larynx
- pH manometry of the cervical and distal esophagus
- Manometry
- Wireless pH telemetry probe – Bravo ( pH telemetry capsule)
Treatment includes medications, swallowing therapy endoscopy and minimally invasive
endoscopic surgery.
