The Nebraska Medical Center offers patients the added benefit of an in-house Donate
Life Services department. Specially trained coordinators meticulously track each
potential recipient placed on the national organ recipient waiting list. This internal
department enables The Nebraska Medical Center to dynamically monitor and maintain
a current and accurate waiting list to provide each waiting patient with optimal
access to available donor organs.
The Donate Life Services department also provides waiting and transplanted patients
with current statistics, educational and promotional materials to assist them in
their own crusades to promote organ and tissue donor awareness. Additionally, the
DLS staff continually promotes organ and tissue donor awareness through many educational
in-services and events across the state. DLS is also part of the Acute Bereavement
Services team at The Nebraska Medical Center, which ensures that the hospitals'
obligation, and the patients' wishes regarding organ and tissue donation are met
through an informed consent process. Each family is given the option to participate
in the organ and tissue donor program at the time of death.
Our Primary Focus is People
Through the UNOS Organ Center, organ donors are matched to waiting recipients 24
hours a day, 365 days a year. Through its policies, UNOS ensures that all patients
have a fair chance of receiving the organ they need regardless of age, sex, race,
lifestyle, religion and financial or social status.
