The Nebraska Medical Center is home to the comprehensive Nebraska Epilepsy Center,
serving Nebraska and the surrounding region and is providing new hope and opportunities
to people with epilepsy. The center employs a comprehensive four-phase monitoring
and treatment program, advanced diagnostic equipment and sophisticated technology
to accurately pin-point the site of a seizure and type of epilepsy.
Designated Epilepsy Center
The Nebraska Medical Center's Epilepsy Center has been recognized by The National
Association of Epilepsy Centers as a level four regional center for the treatment
of epilepsy - the highest designation possible. To qualify as a level four epilepsy
center, the center must provide the most complex forms of intensive neuro-diagnostic
monitoring, as well as extensive medical, neuropsychological, and psychosocial treatment,
a complete evaluation for epilepsy surgery, including intracranial electrodes, and
a broad range of surgical procedures for epilepsy.
Several new and promising treatment options are available to help patients with
even the most difficult epilepsy cases. Today over 14 different medications and
surgical techniques such as resective surgery a vagal nerve stimulation offer new
hope to patients.
